Clips Earrings Saved My Vanity!
I have been addicted to earrings for all my adult life. Twenty years ago I would only wear pure gold stud earrings, drop earrings and hoop earrings – the bigger the better. So big in fact that one evening I found a gold hoop earring in my lap. Upon checking I found that my earlobe was torn and the hoop earring had simply fallen off with the butterfly back still in place on the post.
To say I was devastated would be an understatement. At that time I owned some 50 pairs of gold earrings – they were my pride and joy, and the thought that I wouldn’t be able to wear them was unbearable. I had the earlobe stitched, but it didn’t take, I then took to superglue (honest!), but it only worked for a couple of days at a time and then I started losing my gold earrings.
In desperation I turned to clip on earrings, I just didn’t feel like “me” without earrings in place, I didn’t feel “dressed”. I purchased a couple of pairs of clip on earrings, but found I could only wear them for a couple of hours at a time and would then have to remove them because they pinched. One memorable day a work colleague was admiring the clip earrings on my desk and asked why I wasn’t wearing them. I explained that they were pinching and that wonderful lady showed me there and then how to adjust clip earrings.
Since that day I haven’t looked back – I must have over 600 pairs of clip on earrings in my jewellery draw in every style, material and colour under the sun. Clip earrings then whetted my appetite for costume jewellery because I found I could buy necklaces with matching earrings. I didn’t have to pay a fortune either with costume jewellery being so much cheaper than fine jewellery. In a very short period of time I had become a clip earring and costume jewellery convert!
Over the years it has become harder to find good clip on earrings. I’ve given up with the shops but it is possible on the internet to find the occasional good site. A lot of sites seem to subscribe to the theory that if you wear clip on earrings you’ll only be interested in diamante clip earrings. For someone like me, who lives and dies in clip earrings I want clip on earrings suitable for everyday wear, for the office, to dress up and dress down, to go with jeans, to wear on the beach, on evenings out and with formal evening wear. I want clip on earrings for each and every day and evening in my life. Also, I don’t want them to look obviously clip earrings. I want dainty clip earrings, pretty pearl clip earrings, hoop clip earrings, stud clip earrings, gemstone clip on earrings, Swarovski crystal clip earrings – the list is endless.
I don’t want cheap – I want class - the better the quality, the better the clip. For retailers out there, I know clip earrings are a niche market seller, but there is a fast growing band of discerning consumers who want more choice and innovation in the clip on earring world and I know many ladies who, like me, will invest heavily in their clip earring collection.
